Idabel Finishes Season 3-7, 3-4 in District
Play The Warriors finished their season 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the District, one
win away from a playoff game. The end of the season banquet concluded on
the 9th of December and was attended by all the players, a number of parents,
and most of the administration and fans alike. The banquet featured the
highlight video, great food by Mrs. Mitchell and her staff, and the guest
speaker was Idabel Alumnus
Dennis Parker. Coach Parker is the head
football coach of Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX. He grew up in
and around Idabel, as he so eloquently stated, "We lived so far out we had to
head towards town to go hunting." A graduate of Idabel Grey High School
and at age 24 the youngest head football coach in Texas high school football
history the now 56 year old Coach Parker gave an inspirational speech.
Accompanied by one of his brothers and a childhood friend Coach Parker expressed
his gratitude of being able to return home to Idabel. His captivating
speech bypassed the use of a microphone and in the end brought the entire room
to its feet for a standing ovation for one of Idabel's sons. "Once a
Warrior, always a Warrior," Coach Parker stated.
The Warriors of Idabel along with the coaching staff and parents would like to
extend their gratitude to Coach Parker for taking time out of his busy schedule
to return home and share with all of us his inspiring words. Thomas Wolfe
was wrong, Coach Parker you can always come home.
